Pediatric Kidney and Liver Transplants

When transplant is the best option for a pediatric patient, the experts at Children’s Hospital New Orleans are here to help. The solid organ transplant program team is comprised of a group of specialists dedicated to providing a collaborative approach to all the health needs for these children with kidney and liver diseases. The program represents an enduring collaboration between Children’s Hospital, the LSU Health New Orleans Department of Pediatrics and the Tulane Transplant Institute.

We deliver the best multidisciplinary care in a family-centered approach at the region's premier free standing, comprehensive Children's Hospital. The kidney and liver transplant programs at Children’s Hospital are approved providers for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and for the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS).

Kidney Transplants

The kidney transplant team provides kidney transplantation evaluation, surgery, and follow-up care for children with end-stage kidney disease. A comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach is provided to our patients and their families, including coordinated post-transplant management of care. Long-term follow-up care continues until patients are transitioned to adult services. Children’s Hospital offers the largest pediatric kidney transplant program in Louisiana.

Liver Transplants

Children’s Hospital New Orleans offers a comprehensive, multidisciplinary liver transplant program which provides medical and surgical treatment options to children with acute and chronic liver disease. Our experts are leaders in the field of pediatric liver care and the team includes pediatric hepatologists, surgeons, anesthesiologists, interventional radiologists, infectious disease specialists, intensive care specialists, transplant coordinators, nurses, pharmacists, psychologists, social workers and dietitians. Our team collaborates with the referring pediatrician, gastroenterologists, and insurance companies to address all the needs of the patients and their families while waiting for a transplant.
