The Neurology Department provides inpatient and outpatient care for the evaluation, diagnosis and implementation of therapies for neurologic disorders. The clinic includes a full range of neurodiagnostic services including EEG, EMG and evoked potentials.

Special areas of interest are epilepsy (seizures), neuromuscular disorders, metabolic diseases and inborn errors in metabolism. Neurology also offers general rehabilitative services.

Neurosurgery

The Neurosurgery Department provides evaluation and surgical treatment of diseases or congenital anomalies of the central nervous system and peripheral nerves. Particular attention is given to the treatment of brain tumors, craniospinal trauma, spasticity, craniofacial anomalies, and the care of patients with congenital malformation of the central nervous system. A specialized eight-bed Spinal Unit is also available to neurosurgical patients.

Concussion Clinic

Concussions are mild brain injuries and are one of the most common injuries following trauma. If recognized and treated early and properly, most individuals fully recover from a single concussion. However, people who sustain multiple concussions may take longer to recover each time and are more likely to experience persistent symptoms and lifelong physical, cognitive and psychological problems. The Children's Hospital New Orleans Concussion Clinic addresses the needs of those who experience mild traumatic brain injuries and do not need intensive rehabilitation.
