Children’s Hospital New Orleans is the Gulf South’s only children’s hospital to rank among Newsweek’s ‘World’s Best Specialized Hospitals for Pediatrics’, two years in a row

The international ranking is published annually by Newsweek to help guide readers in finding the right hospital for themselves or a loved one.

NEW ORLEANS – Children’s Hospital New Orleans has been recognized among Newsweek’s ‘World’s Best Specialized Hospitals for Pediatrics’, making it the only children’s hospital in the Gulf South to make the list for the second year in a row. The ranking program features the top 200 hospitals for pediatrics worldwide, and Children’s Hospital New Orleans is proud to be ranked #67 worldwide, and #34 in the United States.

“The Newsweek ranking coupled with our first-ever US News & World Report ranking, and Magnet Designation for nursing excellence, reflect our resolute commitment to provide the highest level of care for kids right here in Louisiana,” said John R. Nickens IV, President and CEO of Children’s Hospital New Orleans. “Our hope is that no child has to leave the state for the expert, lifesaving care they need, and we are incredibly proud to be delivering the highest level of care for more children than ever before.”

This prestigious award is presented by Newsweek and Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider. The World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2023 ranking identifies the best hospitals that specialize in Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Oncology, Neurology, Orthopedics, Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine, Cardiac Surgery, Neurosurgery, Pulmonology, and Urology.

Newsweek and Statista invited more than 40,000 medical experts—including doctors, hospital managers, and health care professionals—to participate in online surveys from July – August 2022 that allowed them to recommend and assess various hospitals within their respective specializations. The results of the survey were then validated by a global board of renowned medical experts. The ‘World’s Best’ list also considered accreditation data and a PROMs survey (patient reported outcome measures) in formulating the results.

As Louisiana’s first and largest freestanding children’s hospital, Children’s Hospital New Orleans has delivered expert healthcare for children across Louisiana and the Gulf South for more than 65 years. With a recently completed $300 million transformation of its main campus in New Orleans, Children’s Hospital provides the highest level of pediatric care in the state, backed by more than 600 pediatric-trained providers, and partnerships with LSU Health New Orleans and Tulane University School of Medicine. Children’s Hospital also operates ambulatory clinics across Louisiana and the Gulf South, including 12 primary care clinics and nine specialty clinics from Lake Charles to Diamondhead, Mississippi.
