Light up the season this #GivingTuesday!

Light up the season this #GivingTuesday!

A letter from a grateful mom and dad

Dear friends of Children’s Hospital,

We write this on #GivingTuesday to those who have supported Children’s Hospital New Orleans in the past and those who might consider a donation this holiday season.

In March of 2021, one month shy of his 7th birthday, my son Abron was diagnosed with cancer. What started out as a typical day turned into a nightmare when a chest X-ray and subsequent tests revealed that he had a mass on his left lung, and two-thirds of the cells in his body were cancerous. The shocking news came with the words no parent ever wants to hear. Abron began treatment for T-cell lymphoblastic leukemia, with chemotherapy starting the very next day. Our lives had forever changed. Our family was devastated.

When Abron’s treatment began, my husband, Abiram, and I were introduced to the incredible nurses, doctors, and staff at Children’s Hospital and to families going through similar crises. Every single person at that hospital showed us kindness and made our experience a little easier to bear. The staff wanted to save Abron’s life, and they made that a priority. But they were also concerned with my own mental health and well-being, as well as Abiram's. They made sure our kids at home were taken care of too. Children’s Hospital paid attention to EVERY detail. I have never experienced a place like this before.

Children’s Hospital gave us the strength to stand on our feet and to stand with God to get through this unexpected journey.

Abron has two more years of treatment left but continues to be in good spirits, teasing and laughing with the doctors and nurses he has come to love. He is in the maintenance phase of his treatment, with monthly infusions and daily oral chemotherapy. He is in the very best hands, and I have faith that we will all get through this.

I hope my words have adequately shined a bright light on Children’s Hospital and the people who devote themselves so fully to caring for children and families like ours.

Will you help Light Up The Season and make a gift this #GivingTuesday? Along with your gift, please share a message of hope and light that will be shared directly with patient families like mine.

I hope that throughout this holiday season you feel as blessed as we do for the gifts we have been given.

Yours truly,

Misty & Abiram Frye
