Children’s Hospital Jazz Half Marathon & 5K

The 12th annual Jazz Half Marathon & 5K will not occur in 2020

At Children’s Hospital New Orleans, our top priority has and always will be taking care of kids.

We are committed to keeping our patients, their families and our staff safe as we manage the emerging global public health situation around COVID-19 (coronavirus).

Following the lead of other large fall events and festivals in our city, Children’s Hospital has made the decision to not hold the 12th annual Jazz Half Marathon & 5K in October.

Instead of crossing the finish line at one of our hospitals signature fundraisers, you will be helping to flatten the curve of this coronavirus pandemic, which will in turn save the lives of the most vulnerable in our city, state and region.

Although we won’t be running together, we encourage you to be active and walk or run a 5K on what would have been race day – October 31, 2020 – in honor the children treated at our hospital and primary care clinics each year.

We all know there is no community quite like New Orleans and no race quite like the Jazz Half Marathon & 5K. We are resilient and will get through this the only way we know how – together.

Why Jazz Half?

You're running for the patients of Children's Hospital

The Party. Rockin Dopsie, Jr. on stage

The Jazz Half Marathon & 5K boasts one of the best post-race parties around. Runners enjoy Louisiana food favorites like Jambalaya and Red Beans and Rice while famous New Orleans musicians entertain the crowds at Lafayette Square. Irma Thomas, Trombone Shorty, Kermit Ruffins, and Rockin Dopsie, Jr. are just some of the artists who have performed at previous Jazz Half marathons. The Mardi Gras Indians — icons of New Orleans culture — will also be on hand to take photos with runners at the finish line.

Volunteer for Jazz Half 2019

Each year, we require dozens of volunteers to help perform a variety of tasks, including food service, wristband sales, etc.

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and must have their own transportation to and from the event. We ask that volunteers arrive at 6 a.m. and stay until the conclusion of the Post-Race Party, usually around noon.

All volunteers receive a free t-shirt, food and drinks. And of course, great music at the Post-Race Party! CLICK HERE to register as a volunteer today!
