Children’s Hospital New Orleans has introduced the Healthier Together Clinic, a collaborative approach to provide a convenient alternative to traditional healthy lifestyle education programs through weekly counseling sessions via virtual video visits.

A retrospective study of children and young adults enrolled in structured obesity programs found that only 53% return for a second visit. However, 70% of those that did return had improved or maintained body mass indexes (BMI’s).
The program begins with an initial visit with our Endocrinology Nurse Practitioner, who will determine whether there are any underlying metabolic issues that are causing an increased BMI.
If the elevated BMI is the result of lifestyle choices, the child and family will be referred to our Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, who will initiate Healthier Together Video Visits. These weekly counseling sessions focus on learning and adopting healthier nutritional, behavioral, and lifestyle choices.
In addition, because these visits are conducted via video, sessions do not require the child and family to travel to the clinic and typically only take 15 – 30 minutes.
