Caring for Young Patients with Compassion and Expertise

Children’s Hospital New Orleans provides specialized urologic care starting from before birth through your child’s teenage years. We cover the needs of children with personalized, compassionate care from fellowship-trained pediatric urologists who lead a team or nurses, sonographers, anesthesiologists, surgeons, medical assistants, and support staff. Our multidisciplinary team has the goal of providing gentle, personalized care and we firmly believe in open, honest communication between our staff, patients, and their parents to create an environment of trust and understanding.

Our team is aware that urologic problems are typically stressful and frightening not only for patients, but also for their parents. That’s why we emphasize education, understanding, and foster an open dialogue so parents and patients are encouraged to ask any questions. Our team will take the time to explain complex urologic conditions in a way that younger children will be able to understand better in a family-focused atmosphere.

Our physicians are fellowship-trained in pediatric urology from premier national programs with advanced training in minimally invasive surgery such as laparoscopic, endoscopic and robot-assisted surgical techniques for all ages. With convenient offices across south Louisiana and Mississippi, we strive to accommodate families’ busy schedules and work to find a timely and appropriate cure for every patient. Our collaborative approach is led by Dr. Joseph Ortenberg, who brings 35+ years of expertise in medical and surgical urologic care. Our team collaborates with other specialists, most notably in the departments of Nephrology and Renal Transplant, Endocrinology, Hematology and Oncology, Neurosurgery, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, allows for comprehensive care of the most challenging pediatric urologic cases.
