Children’s Hospital New Orleans understands how difficult emergency medical situations are for families, and is committed to providing your child with the highest level of care possible from our dedicated team of Emergency Care providers. Our skilled team of multidisciplinary professionals are specially trained to work with children.
We have two emergency pediatric departments in the New Orleans area, one at the hosptial's main campus in Uptown New Orleans and one located at West Jefferson Medical Center on the West Bank.
An ER made just for Kids
Located on Children's Hospital's main campus, the Jack M. Weiss Emergency Care Center provides a complete range of emergency services to care for children from birth through age 21. The Children's Hospital Emergency Department is the largest pediatric emergency department in Louisiana, seeing more than 50,000 patients per year, and is staffed with Children’s Hospital board-certified pediatric Emergency Care physicians, pediatricians and pediatric nurses all working together to provide comprehensive patient and family-centered care.
Our staff is prepared to care for children with any type of injury, medical or surgical emergency, and those who are critically ill. The ED has access to over 40 pediatric specialties, including emergency pediatric dental care, in order to provide the best care possible to every child. Patients from other facilities can be transported by fixed wing aircraft, helicopter, or ambulance. The ED has 33 beds and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.
