Mary L. Dell, MD
Dr. Mary Lynn Dell is Medical Director of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Children’s Hospital New Orleans, with academic appointments at Louisiana State University and Tulane University in New Orleans. She comes to New Orleans from Nationwide Children’s Hospital and The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. She is board certified in general, child and adolescent, consultation liaison, and forensic Psychiatry.
Dr. Dell is trained in theology and is active as an Episcopal priest. She holds Master of Theological Studies and Master of Theology degrees as well as a Doctor of Ministry degree.
Dr. Dell’s academic interests include psychiatric needs in chronic illness, ethical issues in psychiatry and pediatrics, end-of-life care, culture and psychiatry, and the interfaces of medicine, psychiatry and religion/spirituality. She is Co-Chair of the Ethics Committee and founding chair of the Religion and Spirituality Committee of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
She is the recipient of numerous teaching and mentoring awards. Dr. Dell speaks nationally and writes on the topics of ethics, culture, and religion and spirituality in psychiatry and pediatrics. Most recently, she co-edited the book Ethical Considerations at the Intersection of Psychiatry and Religion, published in 2018 by Oxford University Press.
