Dr. Ajay Bhatia is a pediatric cardiac intensive care physician. After completing undergraduate studies at Johns Hopkins University and Oxford University, he received his medical degree from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis where he also completed a Ph.D., in Immunology.
He then went to the University of California San Francisco for residency training in pediatrics and then pursued fellowship training in pediatric cardiology at Emory University.
He received further subspecialty training in cardiac intensive care at Stanford University.
In addition to caring for patients with critical heart disease, Dr. Bhatia has been involved in further developing the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) program at Children’s Hospital New Orleans.
His research interests include investigation of anticoagulation for patients on mechanical support as well as understanding the mechanisms of heart failure from a variety of causes.
He has authored several peer-reviewed publications and has presented his work at national and international scientific meetings.
