Celebrate National Blood Donor Month by giving the gift of life

January is National Blood Donor Month. This month was chosen to raise awareness for blood donation for a reason - because blood supplies are generally at their lowest during the month of January. More surgical procedures are scheduled over the holidays and at the same time donations drop. So when January rolls around, blood centers Nationwide are faced with critically low shortages.

For the first time ever, the American Red Cross has declared that we are facing a Blood Crisis amid the COVID-19 Omicron surge. What does a blood shortage mean? For many, it means delays and risk to patient care and for healthcare providers, it means making difficult decisions.

You can make a difference in ending the dire blood shortage our entire nation is facing. Become a blood donor today! Together with The Blood Center, Children's Hospital New Orleans hosts monthly blood drives to help make a positive impact for children and adults who need blood products here at Children's Hospital, and at other hospitals across our city.

In 2021, through The Blood Center's monthly blood drives at Children's Hospital, we collected 645 blood donations. Help us have another successful year of giving blood to save lives.

Sign up for our next blood drive on Tuesday, January 25 here. Can't make it that day? Head to thebloodcenter.org to learn when and where you can give the gift of life.
