Keeping you and your family healthy in 2021

Keeping you and your family healthy in 2021

For so many families across our city, state, and country, 2020 was an unexpected, difficult year in more ways than one. From job loss and virtual school to quarantine and, of course, illness caused by COVID-19, most of us felt like we were just getting by. It’s easy to let healthy habits like eating well and exercising fall to the wayside when we are focused on just getting through the day. What’s the good news? It’s a new year, and a chance for a fresh start.

While COVID-19 is still very much our new normal, Things are looking up for 2021. With the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine, we have hope for the future. As we continue to practice COVID-19 precautions, we can start this year off the right way by getting back into those habits that can help to keep your body and mind healthy.

Get moving!

Exercise is an important part of staying healthy. Most people, including children, need at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity on most days for good health and fitness, and for healthy weight. Enjoy the chilly weather with a daily family walk or play a game of kickball in the backyard. The possibilities are endless for not only spending time together as a family but also fitting in a family workout.

Don’t delay getting the medical care you need.

We understand families may still feel anxious about visiting the hospital or doctor’s office. It is important to keep up with scheduled appointments, including well check-ups, immunizations, and follow-up specialty care to ensure you and your children stay healthy. Take time to care for your mental wellbeing.

Whether it’s an appointment with a counselor, or just quiet time to meditate each day, it’s important to carve out time to care for yourself. Find what works for you and your family when it comes to self-care and implement a routine. Taking time to care for yourself is beneficial in many ways and can set a great example for your children to implement habits that will be beneficial for their mental health.

Remember the 4 Golden Rules of COVID-19.

While we can all agree that we are tired of COVID-19, it is important to remember that COVID-19 is not tired of us. To continue to protect our kids, families and communities from the increasing spread of this pandemic, remember the 4 Golden Rules of COVID-19: Wash hands or sanitize as often as you can; mask up to protect yourself and others; social distance when you can; and stay home when you’re sick.
