Children’s Hospital ThriveKids Initiative to serve as the COVID-19 vaccination partner for New Orleans area schools, inviting teachers to “BE IN THAT NUMBER”

As Governor Edwards announced Thursday afternoon, beginning Monday, February 22, vaccination sites across Louisiana can begin vaccinating teachers and school support staff working onsite in K-12 schools and early childcare facilities.

Children’s Hospital New Orleans and LCMC Health stand ready to serve as the COVID-19 vaccination partner for New Orleans-area schools as Louisiana expands COVID-19 vaccine distribution for teachers and school staff beginning next week. We are inviting teachers to “Be in that Number” of those saying YES to vaccination.

Children’s Hospital’s ThriveKids team will work directly with a designated point of contact for each school to schedule vaccine appointments for teachers and school staff through our simple online scheduling system. The single point of contact will help ensure a smooth and efficient scheduling process as increasing vaccine allocations are received from the State over the coming weeks.

Children’s Hospital has operationalized a large, on-campus vaccination clinic, which allows for convenient parking and easy access for vaccine recipients, with extended hours available to accommodate the schedules of teachers and school staff.

In partnership with the Louisiana Department of Education, Children’s Hospital New Orleans is proud to serve as continued resource for schools across Louisiana and to provide guidance on best practices, procedures, resources, and robust testing for COVID-19 as part of Children’s ThriveKids Student Wellness Project. We are thrilled that the list of school services available through Children’s Hospital now includes much anticipated vaccination against COVID-19, a vital step in our road to recovery.

This is an important moment in our fight against COVID-19 and a reflection of Children’s Hospital’s ongoing commitment to serve our community. Our goal is to provide a seamless solution for schools and to ensure that the COVID-19 vaccine can be distributed as quickly as possible to our school communities.

Our ThriveKids team will be reaching out to school partners directly over the next several days to share additional details about our vaccines scheduling process, but should you have any immediate questions in the meantime, please feel free to email us at thrivekids@lcmchealth.org.
