Children’s Hospital New Orleans and Lafayette-based Children’s Heart Clinic of Louisiana collaborate to provide families of Central Louisiana with improved access to specialized pediatric heart care, with the opening of a new Alexandria-based clinic.
ALEXANDRIA, LA – With the opening of its new pediatric cardiology clinic in Alexandria this week, Children’s Hospital New Orleans continues to expand specialized pediatric cardiology services for the region and ensure that children across Louisiana have access to the expert care they need.
“With the addition of our new Alexandria clinic, our pediatric cardiologists will bring specialized heart care to the children and families of Alexandria, continuing the legacy of Dr. Anita Go as she retires from her many years of practice,” says Thomas Kimball, MD, Chief of Pediatric Cardiology and Co-Director of the Heart Center at Children’s Hospital New Orleans. “We are proud to bring the expertise of Drs. Michael Brumund, Kelly Gajewski, James Krulisky, and Stefani Samples to our Alexandria clinic, in collaboration with Dr. Durga Naidu of Children’s Heart Clinic of Lafayette.”
Services available at the new Children’s Hospital Alexandria cardiology clinic include Pediatric Cardiology, Adult Congenital Cardiology, Fetal Echocardiography, Electrophysiology, ECGs, and Holter/event monitoring. These specialized services are offered by a team of expert pediatric cardiologists, who will also be able to care for patients via Children’s Hospital’s Virtual Care program.
The Heart Center at Children’s Hospital New Orleans has experienced significant growth over the last year, with the recruitment of pediatric heart specialists from some of the nation’s top children’s hospitals including a coronary artery disease specialist, two perfusionists, two cardiac intensivists, a heart failure specialist, an additional electrophysiologist and board certified adult congenital cardiologist, and a fetal echocardiographer. In addition, Children’s Hospital opened an all-new 28-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and a new Surgery Center with two state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterization Labs on its main campus in New Orleans. This care is extended through specialty clinics across the state.
“The growth of our Heart Center team has positioned Children’s Hospital New Orleans to expand these vital services for children and families across the state of Louisiana and the Gulf South,” says John R. Nickens IV, President and Chief Executive Officer at Children’s Hospital New Orleans. “We are proud to now offer care close to home for the families of Central Louisiana who need access to comprehensive evaluation and treatment for a wide variety of congenital and acquired cardiovascular disorders.”
In addition to the services provided at Children’s Hospital’s main campus in New Orleans, cardiologists care for patients from specialty satellite clinics in Covington, Metairie, Marrero, Houma, Thibodaux, Baton Rouge and now Alexandra – bringing care to families across the state of Louisiana.
