Virtual care now a reality at Children's Hospital

Virtual care now a reality at Children's Hospital

Imagine if you could speak to a pediatrician without having to leave your home.

With advancements in technology, telemedicine is now a reality for many parents, including parents here in New Orleans, and throughout our region.

The Virtual After Hours Clinic allows parents to connect with healthcare providers at Children’s Pediatrics using a secure video conferencing service on your smartphone or tablet and from anywhere in Louisiana.

What is the Virtual After Hours Clinic

Our Virtual After Hours Clinic is a phone or tablet-based app that allows parents to speak with a provider during off-hours, such as in the evenings or on weekends, to discuss their child’s minor issues and conditions. Our provider will contact you over live video to address the issue or to let you know whether you should seek emergency care.

How does it work?

  1. Fill out the registration form.
  2. You will receive a link to download the Virtual CHNOLA app.
  3. Download the app and create an account by entering the information exactly as it was entered in the registration form.
  4. Once the account is active, tap the “+” sign in the app to send a new request.
  5. A nurse will confirm that the request was received and will initiate a video visit through the app

About Dr. Emily Villar Andriessen

Dr. Emily Villar AndriessenAfter earning her medical degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, LA, Dr. Villar Andriessen completed residency at Children’s Hospital. She then completed a year as Chief Resident in Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital. Dr. Villar Andriessen chose to practice pediatrics because she enjoys working with children, and appreciates the importance of the patient-parent/caregiver dynamic. "I enjoy providing education to families about the treatment plan for their children, so that they feel comfortable and know what to expect moving forward. I also value giving guidance on prevention if possible, and reassurance to parents on ways they can treat their child's illness even when it doesn't require a prescription. I like helping children clinically, but also value helping them to feel comfortable at the Doctor, to promote good healthcare and follow up, as they grow older. I strive to make a positive impact on all of my patients and families by putting myself in their shoes while practicing evidence based medicine, to ensure their wellbeing."
