INFORMATION NEEDED TO TRANSPORT / TRANSFER A PATIENT
- Patient Name
- Age, weight and working diagnosis of the patient
- Unit where the patient is located
- Name of referring physician
- Facility name and contact number
For critically ill patients, Children's Hospital dispatches a critical care transport team by ambulance, helicopter or fixed wing aircraft to pick up and transport critically ill or injured patients from referring hospitals. A referring physician can quickly and easily arrange a transport of a patient to Children's Hospital with just one convenient toll free call to 1-855-CHNOLA1 (1-855-246-6521).
The Transfer Center nurse will answer the call and collect the necessary patient information from the referring hospital. A three-way call will then be established with the appropriate Neonatologist or Intensivist for acceptance. The Transfer Center will then immediately notify the transport team to begin mobilization, and will coordinate all transport logistics.
New procedures are in place to expedite the transport team's departure and patient pickup times. Transport services will inform referring hospital on the team's estimated time of arrival.
OUR CLINICAL TEAM
Staffed with specially trained nursing and respiratory personnel capable of stabilizing the most critically ill newborns, infants, and children through age 21. The in-house team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and are ACLS, PALS, and NRP certified.
The Transfer Center is staffed 24/7 by registered nurses who can conduct three-way calls between referring physicians and Children’s accepting physician on a recorded line.

The Transfer Center nurse will answer the call and collect the necessary patient information from the referring physician. Referrals can be directly admitted to the hospital or evaluated in the Emergency Department.
When subspecialty services are needed, the Transfer Center nurse will coordinate with those sub-specialists to ensure appropriate care is available when the child arrives.
The referring physician and/or members of the referring hospital staff are encouraged to discuss any concerns with a member of senior management by calling 504-899-9511 and asking for the administrator on call.
