On Thursday, June 7, Hyundai Hope On Wheels® will award Children’s Hospital in New Orleans with a $75,000 Hyundai Scholar Grant to support the pediatric cancer research of Dr. Ofelia Crombet. Her work will involve determining potential mechanisms of resistance to therapies for lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) to develop more effective treatments.
The check will be officially presented at a Handprint Ceremony at Children’s Hospital, where New Orleans-area children affected by cancer will place their colorful handprints on a white Hyundai Tucson, the official vehicle of Hope On Wheels, to commemorate their brave battles with cancer.
In 2012, Hope On Wheels will donate 43 Hyundai Scholar Grants totaling more than $3 million to institutions across the country. Recipients of these grants are known as Hyundai Scholars. By year-end, Hope On Wheels will have donated more than $57 million through its grant programs to pediatric cancer research since its inception in 1998.
Children's Hospital New Orleans has received more than $250,000 from Hope On Wheels since 2006.
