The Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition team at Children’s Hospital specializes in treating infants, toddlers, school-age children and adolescents with problems related to the gastrointestinal system. These include liver disease, feeding disorders, metabolic disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, motility disorders, stomach problems and diarrhea. The Center for Inflammatory Bowel Disease is part of a national consortium and the Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Network.
Diagnostic and therapeutic procedures include:
- esophagogastroduodenoscopy
- colonoscopy
- flexible sigmoidoscopy
- percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy for placement of feeding tubes and buttons
- foreign body removal
- esophageal varices therapy
- polypectomy
- esophageal and anorectal manometry
- other procedures include 24-hour pH-probe monitoring
- breath hydrogen testing
- percutaneous liver biopsy
- nutritional support
Our interdisciplinary team, consisting of physicians, dietitians, nurses and social workers, works closely together to coordinate the most effective treatment plan for each child.
