Children’s Hospitals’ Solutions for Patient Safety Network:

  • Children’s Hospital is an active member of the Children’s Hospitals’ Solutions for Patient Safety Network, a collaborative of 78 children’s hospitals that is breaking ground in advancing patient safety through the application of safety science techniques and evidence-based guidelines.
  • Children’s Hospital reports data on the 10 most frequent hospital acquired conditions affecting pediatric patients, which the network in turn reports.
  • Children’s Hospital is a participating hospital that sets aggressive goals for the reduction of serious harm events and readmissions. The network has set a goal of reducing hospital acquired conditions by 20% and avoidable readmissions by 10% in the first year.
  • Children’s Hospital is part of the collaborative that has developed a "culture of safety” throughout every institution by having every employee, both clinical and non-clinical, undergo patient safety training and promoting a motto of "All Teach, All Learn.”


The Joint Commission:

Children’s Hospital was last accredited by The Joint Commission in May 2012 and received The Medal of Honor for Organ Donation.

The Cancer Program at Children’s Hospital & the Lanasa Greco Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders:

  • The Cancer Program at Children’s Hospital was granted a Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation by the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS).
  • Children’s Hospital is one of the only 240 members of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), a national study group of premier research institutes in the United States and Canada. Children’s Hospital is the only approved COG bone marrow transplant program in Louisiana.
  • Children’s Hospital’s Hemophilia Program was recently named an affiliate of The American Thrombosis and Hemostasis Network (ATHN), a nonprofit organization committed to advancing and improving care for individuals affected by bleeding and thrombotic disorders.
  • Children’s Hospital is recognized as a pediatric transplant center by the National Marrow Donor Program.
  • Children’s Hospital is one of only 29 pediatric Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) programs in the United States to receive accreditation by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT).

The Gilda Trautman Newman Rehabilitation Center

  • The Gilda Trautman Newman Rehabilitation Center at Children’s Hospital is accredited by the Commission for the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
  • The Center specializes in treating patients with brain injury, cerebral palsy, developmental disability, feeding disorder, limb deficiency, myelodysplasia, neuromuscular disease, rheumatic disease, seizure disorder, spinal cord injury, stroke, ventilator dependence, and other congenital or acquired disabling disorders.
